Why ruin such a good thing? This mustn't get too deep. Oh, but in my sleep, in my sleep, you get so deep with me. Why ruin such a good thing? Hey we could be just friends I know this has to end--it has to end. (It didn't quite begin). Don't you get sucked in. We must beware the sirens. Why ruin such a good thing? Why even take that chance? But oh if there's a chance then there's a chance-- but that's just dumb romance. Why ruin such a good thing? Can't we just enjoy our time? Like every other time with every guy-- Stop it with those eyes! Don't you get sucked in. We must beware the sirens. We've both been down this road before. We both know where it leads. This mustn't get too deep--don't get too deep (But I want you here with me) Let's keep our heads--let's keep our cool-- yes that's just what we need. No, my heart doesn't bleed--it cannot bleed-- every time you leave. Don't you get sucked in. We must beware the sirens.

Well, I feel like I've come undone. I'm still standing here while you're out there on the run. And the burden of my grief weighs a ton. I can't hold it--I've come undone. And no, no, no, no... you can't go, go. And no, no, no, no-- you can't go, go, go, go. Cuz I love you. I love you. I love you. I do. You were lonely and I thought we would settle down. Now you're restless-- I'm the one who's unsettled now. There's no pleasing you-- you got one foot out the door. There's no pleasing you-- you got your hand out begging for more. And I said no, no, no, no. You can't go, go. And no, no, no, no! You can't go, go, go, go. Cuz I love you. I love you. I love you. I do. Are you holding out hope, like I am? Are you holding out hope, like I am? Are you holding out hope, like I am? Is it all just a joke, like I am? I said no, no, no, no! You can't go, go, go, go! And no, no, no, no! You can't go, go, go, go! If you leave, are you staying gone this time? If you leave me, are you sure you'll be just fine? I can stand it--and I won't make you pay for your crimes, but just tell me: Are you staying gone this time? Are you holding out hope like I am? Are you holding out hope like I am? Are you holding out hope like I am? Are you holding out hope like I am? Cuz I love you. I love you. I love you. I do.

about

Beware The Sirens is an album in three parts. Recorded entirely in one take, with scant instrumentation, it explores the trials of solitude, at once longing for companionship and fearing loss of self. The album is a story told in circles: Longing, fear, loss, independence and back to longing.

This album would not have been possible without the production skills of Vaughn Bannister. Thank you to Dominic Poole for connecting us.

These songs were developed largely during my time in Charleston--a period when I was being put up by a number of people who believe in me and my work and who aided me in my journey. Special thanks to Graeme Seabrook, Lily Slay, Kathleen Gilbert, Mike Grabman, the whole gang at The Upper Deck Tavern and the countless others whose small favors were huge favors in my eyes.

Another special thanks to those who contributed to my bus-housing project. You provided me a space to live and work and a vehicle in which to take these songs on the road! I quite literally couldn't do this without you. In particular, thank you to Quint Davis. Your belief in me and support are invaluable!

Last, but certainly not least, thank you to my family, Celeste, David, Chloe, and Ashley. You give me life in both the literal and drag queen sense!
